I would like to thank you for your consideration in adding a lovable poodle from Yankee Doodle Poodle Pups to your family. Below I will explain our Policies, Practices and our Conditions for sales which will tell you everything you need to know about receiving a dog from us.

THE FIRST FEW WEEKS...

Our puppies are born and raised with lots of love in our home. They are handled daily and are pre-groomed weekly beginning at 5-6 weeks. They’re training begins before they are weaned and they are exposed to various noises, surfaces, animals, and situations to facilitate their socialization. Our pups are healthy and happy so we do not feel it necessary to rush them out of here. They are not allowed to leave us until they turn 8 weeks old. By keeping them until this age they are taught some manners by their mother, and they learn to socialize with their brothers and sisters. They are allowed to play in the grass and learn to potty outside and walk on a leash, which makes them easier to housebreak when they go to their new homes.

Visitor Policies

In an effort to provide healthy disease-free puppies to the public, we have a visitor policy. With puppies in various stages of growth that may not yet have received complete vaccinations, any outside bacteria or viruses introduced can be lethal. Also, the excitement and disruption of the pregnant mothers can damage and even kill unborn puppies or puppies still in nursery by mothers stepping or laying on them. Even the older dogs may be at risk, and they can become carriers of viruses to the newborns later. Thus, we cannot allow vistors to visit unvaccinated puppies, have any contact with breeding stock, or newborn puppies not yet weaned. This policy is not meant to offend anyone. We are doing this to protect our beloved dogs and puppies. If this is a problem for anyone, please consider finding a different breeder. Thank you for your understanding. As the health of our dogs and puppies is of highest importance, even after adoption, we have diet, vaccination and neutering recommendations. If these recommendations are followed, we can offer a Limited Lifetime Health Guarantee. (click to view)

Yankee Doodle Poodle Pups does not support the cross-breeding

Yankee Doodle Poodle Pups does not support the cross-breeding of poodles to any other breed therefore all contracts have a provision prohibiting it. I have shared my home with both pure breeds and mutts, and have loved them both. I have chosen the standard poodle because of their intellect, strength, loyalty, hair and the predictability of a pure breed. I do not support the crossbreeding of established breeds for the creation of new "designer" breeds. I believe it's a step backwards and undoes all the progressive work that so many dedicated breeders have done just to produce a dog with "marketable traits" - which in many cases are false claims. It has taken hundreds of years to refine each breed - evidence of the poodle is found as far back as 300 years ago. ( poodlehistory.org) The benefit from pure bred dogs is that many genes have been tested, retained, or removed, resulting in healthier and more sound animals, and we now have a predictable pool of excellent genetic combinations in the established breeds. While golden doodles and other mixed poodle dogs may be sweet, cute, and pick up some of the wonderful traits from their sire and dam's breeds, inheritance in crossbreeds is not predictable, and can have negative consequences. Too often the offspring pick up the worst of both breeds' traits - they can be high strung, hard to train, and very often they have fur that sheds, not poodle-like hair. You have only to go to online to rescue organizations to see how many people purchased (for a lot of $$) a mixed poodle dog believing they are less allergenic than regular dogs, or that they will get all the wonderful breeds' characteristics. Sadly, too often, the buyers don't get what they paid for and the dogs are given up. The most common discovery is that they get both fur and hair, so they shed AND they have to be trimmed like a poodle. I hope we soon stop the "designer dog" trend. Not because I am snobby and only believe in pure breeds, but because I often see the undoing of generations of careful breeding, selection of the healthiest animals, and development of genetic and other health tests that are exclusive to each breed and can not be used on cross breeds (hip dysplasia statistics being one of them). This testing is what goes into the cost of a pure bred; since many of the tests are not applicable to crossbreeds, it is hard to understand why they cost so much. Also, quite often those who breed the designer mixes can only get their hands on those dogs that are not the best of the originating breeds, thus they already start with a poor genetic foundation. Of course these dogs are lovable, but they are not a new breed and should be advertised or sold like they are. It will take hundreds of generations - tens of thousands of dogs, good and bad - to stabilize them into a breed with predictable characteristics. With all of the dogs needing homes today, I don't believe it is the fair or responsible to to produce so many mixed breeds. If you want a mixed breed, please get one from a shelter. There are hundreds of thousands of them available through petfinder.com or your local shelter. Please don't buy a designer dog. If you like the look of a Labradoodle but are bothered with the "prissy" image of a poodle...try a standard poodle with a longer hair cut!

Important Notes

We communicate mainly telephone or text message. You will be responsible for checking and answering all calls and updates during puppy selection time. Failure to do so and to respond in the timeframe asked could result in your loss on place for selection and your deposit. We can text video updates, if requested, in order to show you how your selected puppy is maturing. If circumstances do not allow you to receive your puppy at the time due, we will happily keep the puppy and care for it until you are ready for him/her. There will be a $70 a week fee for the care, my time, food and extra vaccinations that may be needed. The puppy must be paid for in full, and any cancellations will be dealt with in accordance with the return policy. (click to view) Please note that: We now offer stud services. We prefer not to supply puppies as breeding stock. We will not to sell to pet stores. We will not to sell to pet brokers. We do not wholesale puppies. WE ARE NOT A PUPPY MILL... WE ARE NOT A KENNEL... WE ARE A IN HOME BREEDER...

POODLE CARE...

Since poodles DO NOT shed they require professional grooming at least every 6 weeks which can cost anywhere from $75.00 up depending on your location. In between being professionally groomed, your poodle will need to be bathed and brushed and combed to the skin regularly to prevent matting and its ears should be checked daily and cleaned as needed. The hair in the ear canal should to be plucked regularly to help prevent ear problems and this can be done when it is professionally groomed. Any purchaser unable to keep or properly care for a poodle purchased from Yankee Doodle Poodle Pups is to return it to us for re-homing.

RETIRING DOGS

Occasionally adolescents or adults are available. Older adolescents and adults will have already been through the very active puppy stages and their personalities are easier to observe as well. When placed in a new home an adolescent or an adult will generally go through an adjustment period which can vary from as little as a day or two to as much as a month or two therefore patience and understanding are a must!
